SharePoint

Many businesses have had some exposure to SharePoint and it's evolution over the years.  Some take the out of the box features and create a few document libraries and custom lists while others use it as a platform that is key to their business operations.  While the environment required to run SharePoint in the past may have been prohibitive the birth of SharePoint online has made it instantaneous.

SharePoint really has many powerful features and can be daunting once you delve into what it can do.  One of the critical factors in any SharePoint implementation of expansion is making use of what is available to addressing business requirements.  Further more in depth requirement can then be addressed by customisations or development of "web parts" to suit the operations.

One of the components of SharePoint that is often overlooked is the impressive power of it's search engine.  The files and data don't even need to be in SharePoint - they can be files residing in a files system or even business data in a database.  Search results can also be customised to understand data relationships and return data based on parent or child objects in a database.
